Our LALC Neighbours

The Kempsey LALC

can boast that it was affiliated with the first mainland claim for native title.  The claim was made over land at Crescent Head.  The claim was granted to the Dunghutti Elders, the name of the region to which the first people were ascribed to.

From the 2016 Census the Aboriginal populations of the Macleay Valley and its area was 3,353

MEMBERSHIP

 

To become a member of the Kempsey LALC you have to submit a written application for membership and supply required documentation. A New Membership Application Form is completed, which sets out the basis of their membership (residential, association or Aboriginal owner).  There are two types of membership:  voting and non-voting.

 

Membership to a LALC is open to any adult (18 years & over) Aboriginal person who;

  • Resides within the area of the LALC; or
  • Has sufficient association with the area of the LALC; or
  • Is an aboriginal owner in relation to land within the area of the LALC.
